Myrrh Peru smoke box
Peruvian myrrh belongs to the cashew family (Anacardiaceae) and is therefore not related to myrrh, which is a member of the Burseraceae family and is also not found in the Americas. Loxopterygium huasango grows from Ecuador to Peru in mostly humid, tropical environments. It is harvested mainly in Piura, Peru. Another name for this tree is Hualtaco. This deciduous tree can grow up to 5 m tall and 80 cm in diameter.
The resin is used in traditional, shamanic compositions for religious ceremonies and rituals. The first impression of the fragrance is reminiscent of myrrh (hence the confusing name) but develops in a very unique way.
Fragrance Experience: A delicate fragrance reminiscent of freshly baked bread. It has a creamy, oily or nutty undertone that make the incense suitable for adding an “animalistic” touch to incense compositions.
